Mumo’s Inn is listed in the Boris™ app as a Boris verified™ partner. The story behind that is a bit different from what you’d expect.
Cris is Ecuadorian-German. I’m Peruvian-Spanish. We’re migrants. We both went through the experience of arriving somewhere new, not speaking the language, not knowing how the culture works, and figuring it out from scratch. That’s the lens we bring to this.
We treat our guests the way we would have wanted to be treated when we arrived. That’s it. That’s the difference.
Where Boris™ Came From
Cris is a maker. When he notices a problem that keeps repeating itself, he builds something for it.
A lot of the conversations that shaped Boris™ didn’t happen at a desk. They happened in our yard, over a glass of something, when someone who’d just arrived in Germany had questions — not urgent ones, just the kind that pile up when you’re new somewhere and trying to figure out how things actually work here versus how they’re supposed to work.
Cris turned what he learned from those conversations into an app. Step-by-step PCS guidance, local businesses worth knowing, the financial and administrative side of a Germany move that tends to catch people off guard. It started as something for our guests. It grew beyond that.
The principle he built it around: trust is the product. The app only works if what’s in it is honest. That’s the one thing he won’t compromise on.
A Few Things That Stick With You
One evening a guest called — there’d been an incident nearby, he was dealing with the Polizei, and his German wasn’t there yet. Cris went over and stayed until it was handled.
It wasn’t a big production. He just went.
Most of what we know about the KMC came the same way — someone asked, we figured it out together, and now we know. House hunting, neighborhoods, how certain processes actually work on the ground versus what the paperwork says. We share what we know when it’s useful.
Our dog Boris also has a role in this. He takes guest dogs under his wing while their owners are tied up on base. It’s less a service and more just Boris being Boris.
Boris™ for the Rest of the KMC
The app is free and open to anyone moving to or already in the KMC — not just Mumo’s Inn guests.
It covers the PCS process by phase, the financial side of a Germany move, and a directory of vetted local businesses. Works offline. No account, no tracking.
Download it before you land. Free on the App Store.
If you’re headed to the KMC — you know where we are.

About Irina
I'm one of the hosts at Mumo's Inn — a fully furnished TLA apartment in Landstuhl, right in the heart of the KMC. My husband and I have been welcoming military families here for years. I write about life in Germany, PCS moves, and everything the official briefing doesn't tell you. If you have questions, I'm usually just upstairs.
