TLA Near LRMC — the Paperwork Side
For medical TDY and PCS orders at Landstuhl: how the allowance works, what your finance office needs, and where we fit
what this page is for
The Allowance, Not the Address
If what you need is the walking route and what the stay is actually like, that lives on our page about lodging within walking distance of LRMC — 850 meters, about five minutes to Gate 5, written for patients and the people with them.
This page is the other half: the paperwork. Medical TDY and PCS orders at Landstuhl both come with a finance office at the end of them, and the stay only works if the claim does.
What we control: our rates are set to sit within the published lodging ceiling for the area rather than above it, so the stay is claimable rather than partly out of pocket. We do not publish rate figures here — they change, and a stale number on a lodging website can cost you money. Look yours up on travel.dod.mil, or see our per diem page for how lodging and M&IE are calculated.
What we hand you: an itemized invoice showing dates and nightly rate, VAT forms, and a cooking-facility statement when your finance office asks for one — that last one matters because having a real kitchen can affect the meals portion of an entitlement. Ask which of the three they actually want before you file; offices differ.
What we cannot do, and will not pretend otherwise: issue your Statement of Non-Availability. Only the Ramstein Lodging Office can (DSN 480-4920, civilian 06371-47-4920), and generally only once on-base lodging genuinely cannot take you. You do not need it in hand to reserve with us — we will hold the dates while you sort it. And if your travel runs under something other than TLA or TQSA, invitational orders for instance, check the specifics with your point of contact rather than with a host.
location matters
TLA at Landstuhl, in Practice
Landstuhl Regional Medical Center is the largest American military hospital outside the United States, and for thousands of service members, DoD civilians, and military families each year, it is the reason they find themselves in this small German town. Maybe you're here on a medical TDY, maybe you're visiting someone in care, maybe it's a staff rotation. Either way, where you sleep at night shouldn't be one more thing to worry about.
Mumo's Inn sits just 850 meters from the LRMC entrance, in Landstuhl's quiet Atzel neighborhood. That is a five-minute walk — not a drive, not a shuttle, not a taxi. You can step out of the apartment, walk a short residential street, and be at the hospital in minutes. For families spending long days at a patient's bedside, or medical personnel pulling demanding shifts, this kind of proximity changes everything. You can pop home for a proper meal, take a real break in a comfortable space, and return without the stress of navigating traffic or finding parking on base.
Being within walking distance of LRMC also means you do not necessarily need a car during your stay — though every stay includes a complimentary loaner car regardless. Being able to walk back and forth throughout the day removes a whole category of friction. There is no need to coordinate rides, no parking headaches, and no worrying about unfamiliar German roads after a long and emotional day.
The Atzel neighborhood itself is a peaceful residential area surrounded by the Palatinate forests. It is the kind of place where you can take a quiet evening walk, hear birds instead of traffic, and genuinely decompress after difficult hospital visits. It is a different kind of setting from a hotel beside the Autobahn. When you are going through a stressful time, the small things matter: a quiet street, a real kitchen where you can cook a familiar meal, a comfortable bed in a space that feels like home rather than a sterile hotel room.
Medical TDY personnel, family members supporting a patient, staff on a temporary rotation, civilians on a short-term assignment at the hospital — you do not need orders, a CAC card or a sponsor to book with us. Each situation is different, but the need is the same: a comfortable, convenient place to stay as close to LRMC as possible. That is exactly what we built Mumo's Inn to be.
