When Someone You Love Is at LRMC
Nobody plans a trip to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Whether you're the patient, a spouse who flew in on short notice, or a parent sitting with a service member through recovery, you didn't choose this — and the last thing you need is to also worry about where you're sleeping.
Mumo's Inn is 850 meters from LRMC Gate 5 — about a 5-minute walk, through a quiet residential street in Landstuhl's Atzel neighborhood. No rental-car scramble on arrival, no parking search after a long day at the hospital. Just a short, calm walk back to a real bed and a door you can close.
We're not a hotel chain and we're not a call center. Cristian and Irina live directly upstairs with their own two daughters, which is the whole reason the place works the way it does: no front desk, no fixed checkout, no phone tree. If the schedule changes at 6 a.m. or you get back at midnight, you're dealing with the people who actually own the apartment — in English, Spanish or German.
You don't need military orders, a CAC card, or a sponsor to book. Family visiting a patient, civilian medical staff on rotation, anyone with a reason to be near this hospital — you're welcome here.

What Makes This Easier
Five Minutes to Gate 5
Walk to an appointment, walk home for lunch, walk back. No parking, no shuttle timing.
Rental Car Included Anyway
A fuel-efficient Toyota Yaris Hybrid comes with every stay — insurance included, no deposit — for pharmacy runs, groceries, or a change of scenery.
No Fixed Checkout
Hospital schedules don't run on hotel time. We work around yours, not the other way around.
A Real Kitchen
Cook a familiar meal instead of another vending-machine dinner. Small thing, but it matters more than you'd expect on day four.
The apartment also has AC (rare in German rentals), a PS5 on request for a distraction between visits, and multilingual hosts — English, Spanish, and German — living right upstairs if you need anything.

Getting Here Without a Car
Most people flying in for a medical stay land at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), and most of them do not want to sign a rental contract at 7 a.m. after a transatlantic flight. You don't have to. Frankfurt Airport has its own long-distance rail station, and Landstuhl has a train station on the Mannheim–Saarbrücken line: budget roughly two hours, usually with one change. Check your exact connection on Deutsche Bahn once you have your flight times — the timetable changes, and we'd rather you read it from the source than from us.
Landstuhl station is about a 20-minute walk from the apartment, or a short taxi ride if you are arriving with luggage, late, or with a patient. The Toyota Yaris Hybrid that comes with your stay is waiting at the apartment — insurance included, no deposit — so you can get the keys after you have slept, not before. Fuel is on you; it is a hybrid, which is the point.
If you are landing at an awkward hour, or travelling with a patient who cannot manage a train change, message us before you fly and we will write out the simplest route for your arrival time. That is free, and you do not have to book with us to ask.
the practical version
What a Hospital Day Looks Like From 850 Meters
Distance sounds like a small detail until you are living it. A 5-to-15-minute drive means a car, a parking search, and a decision every single time you want to go back — so you don't go back. You sit in a waiting room for six hours because leaving costs too much.
At 850 meters, leaving costs nothing. You walk over for a morning appointment, walk back to eat something that isn't from a vending machine, walk over again in the afternoon. If a procedure runs long, whoever is waiting can go lie down for an hour instead of holding a chair. If the patient is discharged at an odd hour, home is a five-minute walk, not a phone call to a taxi company in a language you don't speak.
The apartment is built around that rhythm rather than around a hotel's. There is a full kitchen, so post-op diets, allergies, or simply eating at 11 p.m. are your call. There is a washer and a dryer with English labels, because a long medical stay produces a lot of laundry nobody planned for. There is air conditioning, which is genuinely rare in German rentals and matters when recovery lands in a German summer. There is no fixed checkout time. And there are two bedrooms plus a living room, so a family is not sharing one hotel room during the worst week of their year.
honest first step
Check the On-Base Options First
We would rather tell you this than have you find out later. If your stay is covered by orders, the on-base route is worth checking before you book anything off base — and sometimes it is the right answer.
Temporary Lodging Facilities across the Kaiserslautern Military Community are managed by the Air Force at Ramstein, Landstuhl and Vogelweh. Per USAG Rheinland-Pfalz, you need PCS or TDY orders to reserve, the maximum TLF stay is 30 days when space is available, and they fill up quickly — especially in high PCS season. There is no guarantee of a room.
For medical stays specifically, LRMC has its own lodging and Fisher House resources on the compound, with their own eligibility rules. Those rules change, and we are not the ones who set them — confirm your situation directly with Landstuhl Regional Medical Center or your patient liaison rather than taking a lodging website's word for it, including ours.
If on-base is full, you don't qualify, or the stay will run past what a TLF can hold, that is when off-base makes sense — and if you are on orders you will likely be asked for a Statement of Non-Availability for full reimbursement. You do not need it in hand to reserve with us; we will hold the dates while you sort the paperwork.
One more thing we would rather say up front: Mumo's Inn is a single apartment, not an agency with a portfolio. One booking at a time. If your dates are taken we will tell you straight away instead of shuffling you to a unit twenty minutes away. And if mobility is a factor after surgery, ask us about the access and layout before you book — we will give you an honest answer, even when the honest answer is that a different place fits better.
