The Patient Has a Bed. You Don't.
When someone is admitted to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, the clinical side moves fast and the attendant side does not. The patient has a room, a chart, a team. You have a suitcase, a phone with the wrong plug, and a question nobody at the gate can answer: where am I sleeping tonight, and for how many nights?
Non-Medical Attendant travel is authorized case by case — by the patient's command, the medical team, or the patient liaison, under whichever document fits your situation. We are a lodging host, not a travel office, so we will not pretend to know your entitlement. What we can tell you is the part we do control: there is a whole apartment 850 meters from Gate 5, it does not require orders or an ID card to book, and it does not put a clock on how long you stay.
If you have not confirmed your travel authorization yet, do that first with your point of contact at LRMC. Then come back and lock down the bed — those two things do not have to happen in order, and the bed is the one that runs out.

You can leave and come back
A 5-to-15-minute drive means parking, keys and a decision every time. At a 5-minute walk, going home to lie down for an hour costs nothing — so you actually do it, and you last longer.
A kitchen, not a vending machine
Full kitchen, so eating at 11 p.m., cooking around a post-op diet, or making something familiar for the patient is your decision rather than the cafeteria's.
Laundry you didn't plan for
Washer and dryer in the apartment, with English labels. A long hospital stay generates far more laundry than anyone packs for.
No fixed checkout
Discharges slip, procedures get rescheduled, timelines extend. Nothing here resets at 11 a.m., and nobody asks you to repack because a booking window closed.
Room for the family that follows
Two bedrooms, a living room and a sofa bed — so when a second family member flies in, or the patient is discharged to recover, nobody is sharing a single hotel room.
Someone here who speaks your language
Cristian and Irina live directly upstairs and speak English, Spanish and German — useful when a pharmacy, a taxi or a form is in a language you never had to learn.
The apartment also has air conditioning — genuinely rare in German rentals, and worth having when recovery lands in July — plus a Toyota Yaris Hybrid included with every stay for the errands you cannot walk to.

On-Base and Fisher House Come First
We would rather send you somewhere else than have you overpay for a bed you did not need. LRMC has lodging and Fisher House resources on the compound, intended precisely for patients and the families supporting them. When a room is available and you qualify, that is usually the right answer — ask your patient liaison or contact Landstuhl Regional Medical Center directly. Eligibility rules are theirs, they change, and we are not going to summarise them for you and be wrong.
The Kaiserslautern Military Community's Temporary Lodging Facilities are a separate route: Air Force-managed at Ramstein, Landstuhl and Vogelweh. Per USAG Rheinland-Pfalz, a reservation requires PCS or TDY orders, the maximum stay is 30 days when space allows, and availability is never guaranteed — least of all in high PCS season.
Off base becomes the answer when those are full, when you do not qualify, or when the medical timeline outruns a 30-day cap. If your travel is reimbursable, you may be asked for a Statement of Non-Availability; you do not need it in hand to reserve with us, and we provide itemized invoices your finance office can process either way.
And the honest limit: Mumo's Inn is one apartment. One booking at a time, no portfolio to shuffle you into. If your dates are already taken we will say so immediately so you can keep looking, and if mobility or step-free access is a factor, ask us about the layout before you book — we will tell you straight whether it works for the patient.
